You're absolutely right, conducting 'in-person' role play is very different from studying text and I'd also agree that it does take time to gain the confidence and skill to mediate. This programme goes into much greater depth than a typical 40/60hour mediation training. You'll learn learn about the root causes and effects of conflict, dispute theory and analyse the role of communication in driving and resolving conflict. You will also learn about the myriad of alternative dispute resolution processes and methods, and the core skills of negotiation. You'll go into great depth and study the theory and process models of mediation, and explore the range of mediation skills and competencies. Furthermore you'll also learn the practice of mediation through the lens of a dynamic and evolving regulatory framework, addressing the current laws and ethics that govern the process and practice as well as the rapidly increasing role of technology in mediation, including online mediation, and semi-automated processes. You won't be studying text, you'll be learning from the leading experts in mediation and dispute resolution both academic and practice. It stands for Qualified Lawyers Transfer Scheme. It's a professional exam that allows qualified lawyers from certain jurisdictions outside of England and Wales to become solicitors in England and Wales. It's compulsory if you want to practice law in the UK but not necessary for this LLM.

In the UK a 2:1 honours degree is also known as an upper second-class degree. In the US it's is equivalent to a 3.0 Grade Point Average (GPA) on a 4.0 scale. Think of it as a "B" average which is considered to be a strong academic performance. In India, it's equivalent to a "first class" or "high first class" bachelor's degree.

That's a great question. Gaining a post graduate degree (LLM) will no doubt enhances one's chances of employment. But I suspect what you're asking is will the LLM entitle you to work in the UK? Is that right?

The answer to your first one will depend obviously on visa requirements and of course the type of employment you are seeking and to what extent your skills, attributes and qualifications are suited to the role. That aside, Newcastle University is part of the Russell Group of universities here in the UK with an excellent reputation nationally and internationally, so a postgraduate degree from NU will be highly regarded. In the first instance, there are numerous funded research opportunities in this field if that were of interest. The skills and knowledge gained from this LLM will also open doors into other dispute resolution roles, of which we are seeing an increasing number advertised. The other key differentiator with this LLM is that it comes with an internationally recognised professional accreditation in commercial mediation. I wish I could be more specific but you'll certainly have many options. Lastly Newcastle University have an outstanding employability record and the employment team work hard to help students identify suitable opportunities. The fees for international and home students are the same, which is another added benefit.
